My long first post

Tesserae

Greetings all. I just started taking Art 1 with Professor Machado. I admit that art is not one of best subjects, probably as I was never any good at painting or sculpture or drawing. My inspiration and creativity are mainly drawn from jazz music, especially inprovisation. I play trombone in the Chaffey Jazz band and hope to continue playing wherever I transfer to.

Now, back to art. I enjoy viewing different types of artwork, mainly paintings and drawings, stained glass, glasswork (very fascinating to me), mosaic, and of course sculpture (the more abstract the better). My favorite artist is Picasso, especially his cubism works. I am looking at a copy of "Woman with a Book" on my wall now, in fact. Cubism is my favorite form of modern art. I also had the pleasure of seeing a special exhibit of never-before-seen works of art from Picasso at the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena. I would highly reccommend visiting th musem if you ever get to Pasadena. I was highly impressed.

One question that I do have and am curious to get others' opinions on is this: Where do you think art is moving to next? What will be involved and will it move away from being abstract?

Myself, I think that art will continue to stay abstract, but technology will be involved heavily. Monitors and plasma screens, as well as lasers and other current technology combined with sound (maybe, but not necessary) giving art motion in ways never thought possible. I know this is nothing new, but with technology out there, I do see a mix of the old and the new.

Take care all and see you in class. Thanks for reading.
